If you’re a self-employed construction professional or run a construction company resident in Ireland you have to register for income tax (individuals) or corporation tax (companies) and submit a return each year. You may also have to register for VAT and submit regular VAT returns to Revenue, depending on your business’s turnover.

If you’ve got employees, you’ve also got payroll to administer, taking into account  pay-related social insurance (PRSI) and the universal social charge (USC).

As a contractor, you might also need to comply with rules around notifying Revenue. A ‘principal contractor’ has to let Revenue know when they enter into a contract within 21 days. They also have to submit information about payments to subcontractors through eRCT.
